Здесь могут возникнуть сложности. Это слово следует по возможности перевести, поскольку оно соответствует значимому названию на всеобщем, хотя это название и возникло давно и поэтому состоит из устаревших корней. Оно составлено из английских "fallow" и "hide" {"Шкура, кожа".} (родственны им немецкие слова "falb" и "Haut") и означает "бледнокожие". Это архаичное слово, поскольку "fallow" в значении "бледный, желтоватый" сейчас используется только в словосочетании "fallow deer" {"Fallow-deer" – "лань".} , а слово "hide" теперь не применяется для обозначения человеческой кожи (кроме тех случаев, когда кожа человека уподобляется шкуре). Эту архаичность не обязательно передавать в переводе. См. приложение F по поводу связи между специфическими хоббитскими словечками и языком Рохана.
